Healthway Medical, the country’s trusted and preferred name in healthcare through its network of clinics in strategic locations, celebrated this year’s People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) National Wellness Day with fellow health, fitness and well-being advocates in an afternoon of fun-filled learning journey held recently at Spaces in Makati City.
The annual event that started in 2013 through the efforts of PMAP, the premier organization of Human Resource (HR) practitioners and people managers in the country, is supported by its member companies to help create a fit and healthy working environment for employees through a day that walked and talked everything about wellness.
Healthway Medical has been the most consistent company when it comes to supporting the activities related to PMAP National Wellness Day, now on its seventh year.
“We have always been active in PMAP especially in this partnership,” says Carmie de Leon, Healthway Medical Vice President for Sales and Marketing and current chair of the PMAP Members Engagement and Wellness Committee. “We believe in the importance of health and wellness in corporations.”
One of the main objectives of the event, which carried the theme “A Taste of Workplace Wellness,” was to promote the importance of embarking on a journey toward a healthier lifestyle.
PMAP Members Engagement and Wellness committee Trustee-in-Charge Bonifacio Afortuado shares, “Employees with poor health affects the productivity of the workforce. Limited movement means limited ability to accomplish your tasks.”
More than 150 representatives from various PMAP member-companies attended the event experienced this year’s more active and engaging activities. The event started with a group stretching activity and Retro Pop Dance courtesy of certified instructor Fritzie Aquino.
Among the exciting physical activities presented were the “Chair Yoga,” facilitated by Roselyn Loyola of Nurture Wellness Spa Village. This unique exercise features modified yoga poses that can be easily done even while seated in a chair, an ideal feature for office workers who spend hours sitting in a chair.
The program also included learning sessions on Stress Management by The Farm San Benito consultant Dr. Marian Alonzo, Mental Health by Healthway Medical VP for Operations Dr. Suzanne Ringler Pama, Fitfil by coach Ananor Fairoz, Flexible dieting by Okada Manila Fitness & Recreation Manager Reijo Del Prado, Creating Positive Image by Flair Image Consultancy Managing Director Ginny Villegas, and Perfume with a Purpose by Okada Wellness Manager Regina Santos.
Another interesting activity during the event was Healthway Medical’s exhilarating interactive session called “Pound,” a fitness routine that is slowly gaining ground among health buffs. It may look like play, according to de Leon but it’s really a serious workout in disguise. De Leon herself led the participants as they all underwent this thrilling dance-and-exercise activity.
Aside from PMAP event partners Spaces, Nurture Wellness Village, NGCP and Healthway Medical, there were other companies that provided free health and wellness services, including freebies coming from The Farm San Benito, Saddle Row, C-lium Fibre, and Waters Philippines.
At the end of the program, the PMAP Engagement and Wellness Committee presented the certificates of recognition to member companies that won in the Wellness Video contest where participants were asked to document and post on Facebook the wellness activities in their respective offices.
For its part, Healthway Medical assured PMAP of its continued support in programs and activities on wellness awareness and other health-related advocacies in the future, particularly those related in the workplace. To take this further, there will be more disruptive innovation and collaboration with PMAP and other organizations.
